e-News® | The NEWS Company…SANGSAD BHABAN, Sept 02, 2015 : Biman Bangladesh Airlines has earned Taka 233.05 crore in profit on its international routes in the last 2014-15 fiscal after overcoming huge loss incurred by the state run organization during the past couple of years on the same routes.
Biman earned a profit of Taka 233.05 crore in the last 2014-15 fiscal overcoming the huge loss it had incurred amounting to Taka 198.80 crore in 2013-14 and Taka 285.63 crore in 2012-13 fiscals on international routes, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon informed this in the Jatiya Sangsad citing statistics while replying to two separate questions.
But, the figure is opposite as Biman could not score any profit yet by operating its flights on its domestic routes although the minister said the number of Biman passengers on these routes has been increasing at the rate of 10% every year.
According to the statistics the minister provided in the house, Biman incurred a loss of Taka 11.39 crore in 2014-15, Taka 0.86 crore in 2013-14 and Taka 2.80 crore in 2012-13 financial years by carrying passengers on its domestic routes.
Refuting allegation that Biman passengers have been decreasing on domestic routes, Menon said Biman passengers in these routes have been increasing gradually every year. “The rate of increasing Biman passengers is 10% every year,” he added.
In this connection, he said the government has been implementing various programmes to modernize all airports as part of a step to further improve its passenger service.
