UAE’s largest district cooling plants unveiled at Abu Dhabi Airports’ Midfield Terminal
e-News® | The NEWS Company…Abu Dhabi, UAE, 12th January, 2016 : One of the UAE’s largest district cooling plants unveiled at Abu Dhabi Airports’ Midfield Terminal Building site. Abu Dhabi Airports has unveiled one of the country’s biggest district cooling plants that will serve Abu Dhabi International Airport’s new Midfield Terminal Building (MTB).
H.E Eng. Mohamed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, Chief Executive Officer, Abu Dhabi Airports, and Sulaiman Al Siksek, Chief Programs Officer, officially inaugurated the plant today, after the system was successfully pressure tested. With a total capacity of 55,000 metric tons of refrigerant, the district cooling plant will provide air conditioning for the MTB through 18 chillers and two thermal energy storage tanks.
Commenting at the inauguration, Sulaiman Al Siksek, Chief Programs Officer at Abu Dhabi Airports, said: “I am delighted that this major milestone in the MTB’s construction has been reached. Sustainability and innovation are at the core of the building’s design, demonstrating Abu Dhabi Airports’ commitment to being a leader in this field. The district cooling system meets rigorous international green building standards and utilizes innovative technology to increase energy efficiency and provide sustainable air conditioning for the MTB.” The district cooling plant provides chilled water from a centralized cooling station, through a network of pipes, for air conditioning purposes.
