Jaguar Land Rover to launch 2019 Evoque with 48V powertrain

aerobd.news : Jaguar Land Rover has unveiled its updated Evoque for 2019. Equipped with an all-new architecture, the SUV will launch with a 48V mild-hybrid powertrain. A plug-in hybrid model will arrive 12 months later. The 48V powertrain is a first for Land Rover – by means of an engine-mounted belt-integrated starter generator, it harvests energy normally lost during deceleration, storing it in an under-floor battery.

The system will also allow the engine to shut off during braking at speeds below 17km/h (10.5mph). When pulling away, the stored energy is redeployed, to assist the engine under acceleration and reduce fuel consumption. Available across the range of four-cylinder Ingenium petrol and diesel engines, the mild hybrid promises to deliver CO₂ emissions from as low as 149g/km and fuel economy from 5.6 liters/100km on the NEDC Equivalent WLTP test procedure.

Nick Rogers, executive director of product engineering, Jaguar Land Rover, said, “Underneath the skin is an engineering and technical revolution. The architecture is all new to accommodate both plug-in and mild-hybrid systems, with only the door hinges remaining unchanged on the body. The chassis has been significantly reworked to make the most of the stiffer body, ensuring the characteristic ride comfort and refinement of a Range Rover.”
