PM urges all tourism stakeholders for ensuring sustainable environment

DHAKA, Sept 26, 2013 – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today urged all concerned government and non-government organizations to work together for hammering out a modern water management strategy for tourism industry with a view to ensuring a safe and sustainable environment.

In a message on eve of the World Tourism Day 2013, the Premier said it is possible to ensure safe and sustainable environment to all and development of tourism industry by formulating a modern water management strategy.

The Prime Minister said it is one of the global challenges to ensure proper and balanced water resource for all.

She said the world water resources are under threat due to global warming, climate change, unskilled water management and wastage, misuse and pollution of water.

She said effective steps including creating mass awareness would have to be taken to protect the water resources.

The Premier said the present government has taken various steps for expansion of tourism industry as well as ensuring safe water resources for the countrymen.

“Our efforts have been continuing with the neighboring countries to realize right share of water from the trans-boundary rivers”, she said.

The Prime Minister termed this year’s theme “Tourism and Water: Protecting our Common Future” as time befitting.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina wished all programmes of the day a success.
