Ricardo launches e-axle transmission

aerobd.news : Ricardo has developed a new e-axle transmission for electric vehicle application. Drawing upon research and technology that the company has developed from involvement in both Formula E and Supercars, the transmission is designed to offer a balance of efficiency and performance, together with low total cost of ownership. Prompted by the rising demand for BEVs, Ricardo has developed the single-speed transmission as the first in a planned range of such products, using knowledge and experience developed both on and off the track.

Capable of accommodating both high torque and high input speeds, this advanced modular transmission can be used in a range of installed orientations, and is equipped with high strength, lightweight aluminum casings that are ideal for direct integration into space-constrained environments. “It’s imperative that to support the driveline requirements of tomorrow’s electric vehicles, we utilize our experience gained across a number of demanding projects and sectors to develop a product that can be manufactured in niche volume and short lead times,” said Mark Barge, managing director of Ricardo Performance Products.

“With our new E-Axle EV transmission, we are offering a highly adaptable solution that will provide an extremely cost-effective means of delivering high quality electric traction to the road. We look forward to supporting customers – from the established automotive industry to EV startups – with this flexible transmission product.” The new single speed transmission will produce a maximum input torque of 500Nm and an input speed of 12,000rpm. At 34kg the system is light. Ricardo has designed the unit to offer ratio availability of 10.1:1, 9.1:1 and 7.2:1. System lubrication can either be forced or splash.
